In 1942, the colorful denizens of a Second Avenue café that serves as the unofficial clubhouse of the Yiddish theatre world gather to gossip, scheme, and dream. The café's regulars — aging actors, playwrights, critics, and hangers-on — navigate romantic entanglements and artistic rivalries while a flamboyant Yiddish theatre star attempts to mount an ambitious new production, even as the world of Yiddish theatre fades around them.
