Musical, Golden Age

Gertrude Niesen, who was in the 1944 production. CBS Radio (Columbia Broadcasting System)

Though it was one of Broadway’s most popular wartime attractions, Follow the Girls is all but forgotten today. The raucous and lively show did, however, make a star of Gertrude Niesen in her only book musical, and her rendition of “I Wanna Get Married” was an authentic musical-comedy showstopper.

Music: Phil Charig
Lyrics: Dan Shaprio & Milton Pascal
