Jersey Boys premiered in La Jolla, California in October 2004. With the large catalogue of popular 60s pop group the Four Season songs as its foundation, Jersey Boys was a jukebox musical. Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s book crafted a take on the behind-the-scenes and origins of a band. Talented young men playing weddings and lounges and getting mixed up with the Mob, persevering through the wilderness and then a big break, and then more clashes and conflicts were all played out to the sounds “Sherry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Rag Doll,” and other familiar tunes. Once again Des McAnuf’s directorial command was all over the stage keeping this show-business documentary saga moving across decades and also providing concert-style performance interludes. John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli and Christian Hoff and Daniel Reichard as other band mates were all greatly talented and appealing. While still on Broadway, a national US tour was sent out, and it opened in London in 2008. Jersey Boys. From left to right, J. Robert Spencer, John Lloyd Young, Daniel Reichard, and Christian Hoff.
