Mamma Mia !

Catherine Johnson has woven twenty of ABBA’s songs into the book of Mamma Mia! The story tells of twenty-year-old Sophie Sheridan (Tina Madigan) and her single mother Donna (Louise Pitre) who live on a Greek island where Donna runs a taverna. Sophie is about to marry and, having discovered her mother’s diary, learns that she has three possible fathers. She invites all three men to the wedding without telling her mother. Donna was once part of a rock trio called Donna and the Dynamos with Tanya (Karen Mason) and Rosie (Judy Kaye), now a cookbook writer. Later, when all twenty songs have been presented, the wedding happens, but no one ever is told who Sophie’s father is. Mamma Mia! opened in London, where it was still playing when the North American production opened. It played in Toronto and Chicago before coming to Broadway.
