Shrek, a grumpy green ogre who wants only to be left alone in his swamp, is forced on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower for the diminutive Lord Farquaad. Joined by the motormouth Donkey, Shrek discovers that Fiona harbors a secret of her own, and both outcasts learn that true beauty lies within.
