Like Star and Garter, Wine, Women and Song, and Michael Todd’s Peep Show of an earlier era, Sugar Babies was an idealized version of a burlesque show. According to sketch writer Ralph G. Allen, who conceived the entertainment with co-producer Harry Rigby, the show was a celebration of American variety entertainment from 1905 to 0930 and the aim was to recreate as authentically as possible some of the classic low-comedy sketches and routines of that period.
