Bud Davis, a young Texan, moves from the country to Houston to work in an oil refinery and finds excitement at Gilley's, the world's largest honky-tonk bar. There he falls for Sissy, a tough cowgirl, and they quickly marry. But their volatile relationship is tested when the arrogant ex-con Wes moves in on Sissy, and Bud tries to prove his manhood by mastering the bar's mechanical bull. Amidst the neon lights and country music, Bud and Sissy must learn that real love requires more than bravado.
