Musical, Golden Age
Unscrupulous Sammy Glick was first immortalized in Budd Schulberg’s novel about the double dealing world of Hollywood. In the musical version, adapted by Schulberg and his brother Stuart, he was something of a relative to How to Succeed’s J. Pierpont Finch, as the story covers Sammy’s rise from his days as a newspaper copy boy, through his job as a script writer at World Wide Pictures and his affair with fellow-writer Kit Sargent (Sally Ann Howes), to his elevation as studio chief and his marriage to his boss’s nymphomaniac daughter (Bernice Massi).
